NFL Foundation and USA Football Host Youth Summit

A select group of coaches, including former NFL players now coaching high school and youth football, have been selected by the National Football League Foundation (NFL Foundation) to participate in the NFL Foundation-USA Football Youth Summit, in Canton, Ohio this week. It is the 13th year the summit has been held.

In addition to the coaches, 92 other supporters of youth and high school football, including youth football commissioners and athletic directors from across the country, will attend the Summit, which is funded by the NFL Foundation, on Wednesday and Thursday.

NFL Foundation Kicks Off Summer with nearly $700,000 in Grants to Youth Football Camps

The NFL Foundation is kicking off summer by supporting 221 football camps through its Youth Football Camp Grant Program. Nearly $700,000 has been awarded to support current and former NFL players and coaches hosting camps for children across the country.

These are free, non-contact football camps for children ages 5-18 that focus on teaching proper technique and sportsmanship. All camp coaches must complete an online education course with instruction on injury prevention, including heat and hydration.

Heads Up Football Advisory Committee Unites Football, Parenting and Medical Experts for Youth Player Safety

The Heads Up Football Advisory Committee along with representatives from USA Football and the NFL met for the first time today at the NFL office in New York.

The committee – which currently includes 22 men and women representing youth football experts, retired NFL players, educators and medical professionals – will advance Heads Up Football’s mission to promote player safety for the children in all 50 states who love to play the sport and gain from its rewards.

Jason Taylor Joins the NFL Foundation Board of Directors

The National Football League Foundation announced today that former NFL Man of the Year JASON TAYLOR has been chosen to serve on the organization’s board of directors. Taylor enjoyed a 15-year NFL playing career with the Dolphins, Redskins and Jets, including being selected to six Pro Bowls, and retired in 2011.

Taylor joins the NFL Foundation board in a newly formed post for retired Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year winners who will serve two-year terms. The Walter Payton NFL Man of the Year award has been presented annually since 1970 to an outstanding player who also makes significant contributions to society. Taylor received the prestigious award in 2007.

USA Football to Lead Player Safety on Youth Level

USA Football, the national governing body of the sport in the United States, will conduct its first Heads Up Football Master Trainer workshop on March 2-3 in Indianapolis.

USA Football will instruct 21 Master Trainers, including some of the top high school football coaches in the nation as well as former NFL and college players. This group will then teach the Heads Up Football program to youth league leaders across the country.

Heads Up Football is a comprehensive approach to a better and safer game, encompassing USA Football’s accredited Level 1 Coach Certification Course, Heads Up Tackling techniques, educating leagues on Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) concussion recognition and response protocols and instructing on proper helmet and shoulder pad fitting. USA Football’s Master Trainers bring a wealth of experience and success – including a combined 26 high school state championships – to the position.
