All Jacksonville public high schools now have athletic trainers to treat, prevent sports-related injuries

Project 17 began in 2015 as a public-private partnership to install full-time, certified athletic trainers at all Duval public high schools by 2020. Led by the nonprofit Jacksonville Sports Medicine Program, the initiative was funded by the Jaguars Foundation and the NFL, as well as the city of Jacksonville, Jacksonville University, Brooks Rehabilitation, Memorial Hospital, Florida Blue and Duval County Public Schools.

Mayor Lori Lightfoot and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell kicked off a Douglas Park cleanup on the Southwest Side on Wednesday. The league hosted a “Huddle for 100” day-of-service in Chicago to mark the start of the NFL’s centennial season on Thursday, the mayor’s office said. Soldier Field will host the NFL season’s opener, which continues the historic rivalry between the Chicago Bears and the Green Bay Packers.
